Let us Now Praise Famous Men

Alan Mollohan will attend the Clarksburg City Council on Thursday so he can be praised for all that he has done to Clarksburg. Let's hope the Mayor proclaims that the Waldo building shall hence forth be known as the "Mollohans" and the old Palace building might be called the , "Alan did it for the People" building. His earmarks bought those buildings through Vandalia and it would be very Byrd-like to reap the public acclaim for this progressive use of down town real estate.

How nice it would be if his protege, ex-employee and beach home neighbor would acompany him to Clarksburg to finally reveal what their development plans are for their City properties, including their downtown garage off Washington. Ms Kuhns has been out of the lime-light of late and we miss her insight on all the fine work Vandalia has been doing for Clarksburg.

Al and Laura were the inspiration for the new parking facility on Pike Street. With assured parking there was no stopping the future of the Waldo Building. So the City moved ahead. They're still waiting at the alter.

Hopefully, other owners of vacant property will receive equal recognition from the City Council. This would be a good time to kick around that Wilmington, DE idea of charging property owners exorbitant fees for not having tenants. If it was to be $500 fine for an empty house, just think of what revenue could be reaped for Mollohan's buildings. But that committee is still working on their proposal.

On the other hand, maybe it is just the political season and the good Dems in City Council believe they better do a PR version of greasing the palm in the hope of getting something out of Mollohan that would be actually useful later on. You know, paying the public relations piper. $23 Million is estimated for the road from Rt 19 to US RT 50 - RT 98. Wouldn't it have been nice to have received 10% of the Federal dollars that went to the new Faimont connector from I-79 to down-town? That has yet to be finished. It is good that Mollohan has got around to thinking about Clarksburg.

I sure would like to see something done with the old Waldo Building, as well as the old Sheraton Building. Clarksburg needs a convention center or two. Why is Clarksburg laying back? B-port seems to be forging ahead.

"If you build it, they will come."

I would hope Clarksburg City Council will be stroking anyone and everyone to get funds "earmarked" for some redevelopment of Clarksburg. There is a "Visitors Bureau" to do the marketing.

Does any one have vision????

An empty Sheraton Building is lame!

Later guys,
Bella Sara

I hate to be so partisan(I know our municipal elections are non-partisan), but look at the make up of both the residents and the councils of Bridgeport compared to Clarksburg. I believe Bport's council has at least 3 Republicans, Cburg's council has none. Also the Bport has a higher percentage of Republicans than Cburg.
I realize this is not the only factor, but I feel it plays a big part.

I believe M. Bailey and D Thompson are republicans on council.... Not that, this has anything to do with anything. Look at any small(50k or under)town, with the majority of homes constructed over 60+yrs ago and a shift in population growth with the advent of new roads (i-79). Now add 25+ years of county wide political manipulation that has 1)taken community schools out of our neighboorhoods 2) spent $$ building 4 lane roads to Pete Dye Golf Corse instead of rt 98 where we have a High School, a new grade school, and the hospital 3)which has allowed our hospital to argue they need to move to another part of the county, in an effort to add property value to an area owned by a select few.
These issues are neither Republican or Democrat and to say they are only inflames the issue and brings no meaningfull dialouge to the table, all politics are local. And the sooner we get off of our National party talking points, the sooner we will realize we have some good and a lot of bad representation in our city, our county, our state, and at the federal level.
As for Alan M. he's a great politician. He has been in office since 1982 and has become a multi millionaire. But most importantly, he has done nothing for Harrison Co. and we keep electing this gem of the hills

My fault yes Dan is a Republican, he just recently switched. I don't believe Ms Bailey. You may think it doesn't matter, and I may be wrong, but I just feel its the general different attitude of the 2 parties. I also feel it is not the only reason, but plays into it.

Yes, Ms. Bailey is definitely a Republican. I think she was Linclon's third wife, but I could be wrong.

Yes, and thank you Alan M. for allowing Clarksburg businesses the privilege of competing with your dirty earmarked federal tax dollars for parking clients and tenants. And, oh: would you please let us in on what 23-28 million dollars bought for MountainMade.com? It was built in a refurbished coal company office in Thomas, WV--not exactly the world's priciest real estate. Yeah, there is some advertising, but where the hell is all that cash? Gee, that would have been nice connector money. And the Exponent-Telegram has the chutzpah to grouse around that a paltry 7K is going to pay for the Clarksburg City Counsel's travel expenses? I haven't seen one decent newspaper article, actually written (not reprinted) by the geniuses at the Exponent-Telegram about Mollohan's money-fun with the inimitible Laura "I ain't done nothin' wrong and damn proud of it and my house at Bald Head" Kuhns, but boy can they put down Clarksburg. If you just took a fraction of Vandalia's (Heritage? Redevelopment? what's the diff..?)Waldo/Palace earmarks and the 4.5 MILLION DOLLARS THAT WERE MISAPPLIED TO THE POCKETS OF LAWYERS AND OWNERS OF THE DILAPIDATED MESSES THEY TORE DOWN--now,you'd have a great hotel and retail/parking facility. What a laugh. GREED PREVAILS.
Paying a half million dollars for that Pike Street property was downright sinful. ISR a nonprofit? "Redeveloping" a parking lot? Oh puhleeeze. Every dog has his day. HUMBUG.
BAAAAHHH-d.

As for the topic at hand, toss em in a hat and pick one, Mollohan or Wakim, we'll be in the same boat or worse. Seen their sorry excuse for TV ads yet? All they seem interested in is destroying each other. Partisan politics is the true demon of this country.

Bport Agnostic

PS The Washington quote above is paraphrased and taken out of context. The actual quote reads, "You do well to wish to learn our arts and ways of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ." He was speaking to Delaware Indian chiefs and the words "American schools" are nowhere to be found. It's possible he meant this but I think it's stretching things a bit. Especially as this was during the Revolution and we didn't have "American" schools yet.
