"Our State and Our Votes Are Not For Sale"

That's the message from the WV Democratic Headquarters in their press release. Wonder if they are over-reacting to the desire of Blankenship to fund opposition candidates in the Fall election?

The plan: Get a plane; make a 5 city stop around the state; get a motivational speaker to say the state is not for sale; this results in an aroused and high motivated populus to take the party to Victory in the general election.

Nick Casey, I take it, is a motivational speaker. Don't know him. Others might have drawn a larger crowd. They should have got Jay Rockefeller as speaker. He has convinced many West Virginians that the State is not For Sale. Or, Alan B. Mollohan could provide some insight into the way money may corrupt politics. (I don't recall if the Manchin family is better off than I - Ok, they live in a better house). There are lessons to be learned; both by the would-be-teachers as well as the prospective students. So, come out to the airport Thursday at noon and have some fun. Oh, and if you have any Warner Sallmans' around ... take a portrait with you to Bridgeport so everyone will know that God has adopted your cause.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 18, 2006 Contact Nick Casey: 304-345-2000 (Charleston) Democratic Party Chairman Nick Casey announced that he will launch a 5 city fly-around tour to show Don Blankenship that our state and our votes are not for sale. Chairman Casey announced the tour following published remarks by Don Blankenship promising to spend millions or "whatever it takes" to defeat legislators that he doesn't like. The tour has three main purposes according to Chairman Casey. "We'll be delivering post cards at each stop so that West Virginians of all parties can send a message directly to Don Blankenship," said Casey. "That message is simply, you can't by our votes, our integrity or our legislators. West Virginia is not for sale, Don." "Second, we'll be delivering a little 'truth serum' as the antidote for Mr. Blankenship's distortions and misrepresentations about members of the legislature." "And finally, since many people don't know much about who Mr. Blankenship is or what he stands for, we'll be letting people know who the real Don Blankenship is," said Chairman Casey. For example, "In October of 2004, in response to criticism that he was using the plight of poor hungry children to advance his political causes, Mr. Blankenship said "he will start a foundation also called 'And for the Sake of the Kids' to 'provide needed clothing and other necessities to the most needy children of West Virginia.' (Charleston Gazette, October 15, 2004). In that article he pledged to raise an amount 'similar' to what he spent in the 2004 election. At last count that was about $3.1 million," said Casey. "Our question to Dan Blankenship is simple. Where you serious about that pledge or did you just use the image of suffering children to advance your political empire?" said Casey. "If hungry children can't take Don Blankenship at his word," said Casey, how can we? The tour schedule is as follows: Martinsburg 10:00 413 South Raleigh Street Clarksburg 12:15 Clarksburg Airport Wheeling 2:00 Independence Hall Beckley 4:15 Beckley Airport Charleston 5:15 Capital Steps Where: KCI Aviation at the Harrison Marion Airport 2100 Aviation Way Bridgeport, WV (Enter at the first blue building on the left at the sign that reads "Learn Flying Here") WHY: Because WEST VIRGINIA IS NOT FOR SALE

Of course votes are for sale --always have, always will be (and rightly so in my opinion, but that is another story). The Democrats just don't want the bidding opened upwards -- and bid up, not with taxdollars, but with someone's OWN money to boot.Aaaaaghh!!

[And just where the hell did this rich Blankenship guy in West Virginia come from? We thought we had outlawed and ridiculed and punished and restricted and harrassed and bureaucratized and taxed and impugned capitalism and capitalists way back in the 30's. Don't want OUR (sic)state to get the wrong ideas from the wrong people now]

Their feigned mask of economic ignorance drops when their interests are at stake.

[Damn, and back in the good old days, we could buy them soooooo cheaply -- by the family pack or the union pack or the welfare/entitlement pack or the Byrd pack-- but for g-d's sake don't ask OUR (sic) STATE to forgo the straight ticket, that would be going just too far for OUR (sic) PEOPLE.]

Memo to self and anyone else with torches and pitchforks: Be wary when politicians use salubrious terms such as 'our' or 'we' or 'the common good' or 'the public (interest)' or any other collectivist-type qualification (especially 'the system', as in OUR healthcare SYSTEM or OUR school SYSTEM) that can only but diminish the sovereignty of the individual. There is only one public interest and only one common good : the mindful individual yoking his/her individual liberty to their personal property to advance their own selfish interest. You can always find lots and lots and lots of other ways to compromise in your life.

These Democrats are jealous because Don Blankenship has provided more jobs and created more tax dollars than they could
even dream of. I don't know any of these politicians I’m an ordinary citizen of the State but it's obvious what’s happening here.
These Democrats are hipocrits, they are doing the same thing Blankenship is doing spending money to influence voters.
Just so they know we Hillbillies aren’t that stupi.

First in defense of KCI, they are not hosting it. It is just at the airport, b/c that is where the planes land.
I agree with everyones post. I think a good sign would be "DON IF YOUR GOING TO BUY VOTES DO IT THE OLD FASHION WAY BY BRIBING OFFICIALS.

What turns me on is the fact that people are taking a relatively serious interest in what is going on in their state and in their local community. Some people are coming out with flying dropkicks. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. And this book? The book that tells all about political corruption in the state of West Virginia? It ought to be a bestseller. When I first came here there was only one political party in the state. The other one, I concluded, just pretended to be here. But with The Jolly Green Giant coming in to slap a few folks around.....I guess you could call that a slight turn of events. What is most interesting to me is the way, the way, the way the minority party in this state is making its move. Like a bull in a china closet. Me? I don't have a dog in this fight (as the politicians say) at the moment. Maybe I will. We'll see. It looks extraordinarily interesting.

They're going to have rallies in several cities in the state today. The Democrats I mean. Of course. They are going to tell the people that their votes are not for sale. That sounds like an untruth to me. I think their votes are for sale. I think their votes have been for sale for as long as they have been voting.

I don't think tax funded state employees should be allowed to vote. Same with people on any dole.
Make the lines at the poll booth as short as possible for the folks who have to do the real work in WV.

Don Blankenship the highest paid CEO in the coal industry last year and the latest in a parade of “Hill Billys with Money Gone Wild” ala Jack Whittaker finds himself in the hot seat with Massey investors.

Perhaps instead of concentrating on purchasing WV politics he should of paid a little more attention to the job he is paid to do. I am sure Massey shareholders would have preferred it. In fact the shareholders tried to replace Massey board members with two representatives of New York-based hedge fund Third Point but apparently some legal maneuvering prevented that from happening.

Massey’s second-quarter profits dropped 91 percent. I don’t think Massey investors expect this type of performance form the highest paid CEO in the industry. Prior to the board election Massey repurchased about $50 million worth of its stock at an average price of $38.47. Today that stock is valued at $26.94 or 30% less. A chart of Massey's stock prices has the same profile as a ski slope at Sonwshoe. Apparently Don and minions are as dumb as a bag hammers.

Of course Don’s immediate response, rising costs, the fatal fire at Aracoma, Clinton made me do it (I just through the political thing in there)…..all the usual BS spewed by top management in an attempt to cover up their inaptness as managers. I guess Don views Massey shareholders like juvenile children whose only purpose is to fund his political endeavors. Don’s knee jerk reaction is to shut down operations and lay off employees. Wow, what out of the box thinking. Such impressive performance by the highest paid CEO in the coal industry… I guess there is some truth to the Peter Principle.

I can hear the clinking of spears and pitchforks being sharpened, tar being boiled and feathers being plucked. Maybe Don can continue to side step landmines and become the Teflon Don or face being ousted as an overpaid, arrogant, obnoxious moron. The shareholders will decide.

Well so much for providing more jobs and creating more tax dollars than they (I assume Democrats) could even dream of.
