State Party Leaders want Earlier Voice in Presidential Selection Process

West Virginia Republicans want to hold a state convention to choose a presidential nominee on the same day as New Hampshire's presidential primary.

State G-O-P Chairman Rob Capehart says a convention would be held on February Fifth, 2008, a week after Iowa's caucuses. He said that would be the same day as New Hampshire's vote, however New Hampshire has not yet set its 2008 primary date.Under the plan, 13-hundred delegates to the state convention choose a presidential candidate who would win 18 of the state's 30 delegates to the Republican National Convention. The other convention slots would be chosen by party officials and based on voting in the state's presidential primary in May 2008
