I heard about this web site today on the Tim Brady Show. I love that picture of Jesus in BPHS. I went there in the early 80's and nobody had a problem with it then. I guess our culture has changed with the times. Can we be to P C ?
Yes, it is indeed a good question and one that they succesfully avoided during the election cycle. I expect the board members will continue to avoid answering that question. It would be a good exercise in their reasoning abilities to construct an answer.
Reference the other anonymous commentor: I, too, have a great fondness for that portrait and would wager (if there were only some way to prove it) that I know more about that painting than anyone else in Harrison County. But,nonetheless, two federal courts have ruled that it was illegal for the government to hang that specific portrait in a school in 1994. Presumably, it was legal up until that point. That portrait aside, my big issue is that a government manager(s) can and will choose religious objects for display that no one voted upon. Go back into my archives and look at the many, many, pictures that I displayed around Easter. There are hundreds more where I got those. So, who chooses to shove what religious symbol down the throat of the other guy's children. That's my primary issue. And the government, even if it is local, should be obeying the law. Change the Law, but if you are in the government you are not above it and shouldn't pick and choose what you will follow.
Mike, for some of us, you don't have to give an answer. Some of us can tell you have been brought up with love and care and are spiritually fulfilled. For those of you who want to make an issue of a lovely portrait that has been in view for years, you should worry about the big question you will be asked some day.
We have problems in this area people, and the picture at BHS isn't one of them.
If we have problems in this area, (and I agree we do) Then why is the Board of ed not addressing the "real" problems? I vote and voted for two men that I thought should be on the board because they both have children and both are a breath of fresh air. The BOE has no leadership from the current board or from the sup., I hope one of the two I voted for does the right thing and works for the taxpayers and the children in this county! because the current 5 only care about being re-elected.

Great question. Will any of our Harrison Co Board Members be able to explain their non-compliance with the supreme law of this land?
