Group Blasts Mollohan's Earmarks
A Washington, D.C., watchdog group says it, too, has scrutinized the funneling of government funds from Congressman Alan Mollohan months before last week's news of a federal investigation into his finances.
Americans for Prosperity is taking a bus tour of the country to protest government earmarks, or designations of Congress-appropriated funds that are used for political pet projects.
The group is calling its bus tour the "Ending Earmarks Express" and it was expected to roll into Charleston today.

Earmarks are legal you know. However all the connections in private business deals, the non-profit organizations, and large donations back (kickbacks)to the Congressman, looks to be taking advantage of the taxpayer, and maybe even fraud. How does anyone go from 500,000 in assets to at least 6 million in 4 years? Does he have a lucrative E-Bay business?
This guy could make a fortune as a Financial advisor.I didn’t know congress had that kind of a pay package. As a public servant we need to find out where that money came from. It's no different than the IRS scrutinizing our income and assets or the Police looking at your electric bill to see if you run a meth lab or running grow lights for drugs. He is not above the Law.All he has done for North Central Wv is create a country Club
for a bunch of free loaders. Do you see the Alan Mollohan Bridge anywhere,or the Mollohan school, don’t tell me about the Taj-mahal in Fairmont.
How about securing some funds for infrastructure Mr. Mollohan. Do you know that a lot of folks around here don't even have water service yet.Our small communities are falling apart because their tax dollars are being shipped off to Charleston and Washington, that’s that big sucking sound you hear. Or is that the sound of 10 or 20 of these preferred contractors sucking at the Governments teet.He has been ineffectual for years and it's evident. Then we have to go hat in hand to beg for money to build a water treating plant. It’s like we live in a damm third world country around North Central Wv. Or maybe we get GW to invade Rivesville then go and hire Halliburton to rebuild it complete with a new water system. While were at it lets invade the small community of Marshville the send Halliburton in to run a water distribution lines out there so those poor folks won’t have to carry water form the creek to wash their clothes. If the voters don’t take care of these crooked politicians they will just become more emboldened. Damm I can’t wait till election time. I’m so excited I can’t sleep. After that I’m going to Disney World.
One person's pork barrel project is another person's economic development project. It just depends on where you live. Did the earmark help your community? If it did, than your congressman did the right thing. Think of it this way - he returned your hard earned tax dollars to your community - you know the ones that are paid by low and middle class folks. Or he could have let the tax dollars your community paid go to pay for services to some wealthy folks in a wealthy community who get all the break in the Bush Republican system.
HOwever you feel - the key is to vote in November.
lookingforleaders, why don't they leave the tax dollars here to begin with so they don't get to play robin hood on our dime, and we won't have to pretend that they are great men. The issue with Mollohan and his 5 non-profits is that they are not sef-sustaining; therefore not much in econ devel. When the money stops flowing to them, they will die along with the so-called good jobs they created. and by the way, I thought you went and jumped off a bridge someplace. lol ...G
