Del Ron Fragale Answers Gundovald

Even though he claims he doesn't know who he's talking to, we appreciate the courage of his response. Dear ______, I usually don't respond to anyone who does not sign their name . I will this time for information purposes . I think I'm correct when I say the legislation our Commissioners and Assessor keep refering to was passed in 1988. I was first elected in 1990, Del. Cann in 1994, Del. Iaquinta in 2002, and Del. Miley in 2004.-This legislation said in effect that each assessor should follow a schedule to keep the assessed property values current. I applaud our commissioners for taking such a bold step. I hope their actions are constitutional.I believe Mrs. Romano is trying her best to do what she feels the law tells her to do.I would be happy to vote for a way to slow these valuations down without doing damage to our educational system. It probably is too late this year to make changes but Gov. Manchin has indicated he will call a special session on taxation later this year. This will be a good time to deal with this issue. Delegate Ron Fragale

Mr Watsons' comment translated "I would be happy to vote for a way to slow these valuations down without doing damage to our educational system." What he really means is without pissing off the school board and the teachers and administrators.
They always play the poor school kids card when defending these taxes. None of these politicians
have done anything to make these real estate taxes fair. Example, when these levys are brought up for votes, guess what! You don't even have to own property to be eligible to vote for them. So the poor bastard with the property gets stuck with the bill.
The guy who lives in an apartment or rented house pays nothing.

I don't know if the Tax freeze was constittional either, but I can tell you what would be and that's voteing the Tax and Spend politicians out of office if they can't find a solution to these growing taxes in this State.

Thank you Ron Fragale for your remarks. You have been a great public servant for the citizens of Harrison County and friend of the County Commission.

The Commission has no beef with anyone. The legislature does their job, the assessor hers and the county commissioners theirs. None of us own government, we work for the citizens of Harrison County.

The Commission has taken a bold stand......stop or at least slow down the tax train.

In closing I appreciate the efforts of gundovald to bring attention to various issues affecting Harrison County. The "G" certainly has the pulse of the county.

Ron Watson, Commissioner

You know G man, what will be interesting is if this move by the County commissioners is challenged in Charleston we will have at the very least smoked out the politicians in the State that are against tax reform.

Mr Fragale says that MOJO will take up taxation later this year and that's fine, but as I recall MOJO as we West Virginians like to call him nick named by Hoppy I think, only gave us a 1 Percent decrease in the food tax. You could say he just threw us a bone.
We will get the rest of the prize come election time. You won't see any property tax relief from Charleston. If we at the local level don't take the initiative it won't happen. We need to keep the pressure on our local leaders as well.

I think these guys at the county level thinks this property tax issue will go away. But if you get out in the county and talk to the taxpayers there's a real storm brewing out here.

Mr Fragale is snowing you. He's saying that since the law was passed in 1988 and he was elected in 1990 he didn't have enough time after 16 years to look into it. Does he think laws are written in granite. If it is a problem, fix the law. BS about wait for a special tax session later this year. What's his position before the election?

The other thing he is doing is using the Governor excuse; like we have to wait for him t tell us what legislation we can pass. He's not willing to provide independent leadership.
